Luxury travel experts the Goldman Group celebrate International Women’s Day

Honouring women in the travel industry

 

Media Alert - 5 March 2019: This International Women’s Day, Australia’s premier luxury travel advisory group, the Goldman Group will celebrate all its leading women by temporarily rebranding to the ‘Goldwoman Group’. On Friday, 8 March, Goldman Group offices around the country will also display a Goldwoman Group logo to honour all influential women in the company and travel industry.

 

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #BalanceforBetter, which opens the conversation about a balanced world, calling to celebrate women's achievements while enforcing change to create a gender-balanced world in 2019 and beyond.


“Today we celebrate the women of Goldman Group for their invaluable contribution to the company and wider travel industry,” says David and Anthony Goldman, Joint Managing Directors of the Goldman Group. “On International Women’s Day, we want to take it one step further for the women who make up 85% of our team,” says Tom Goldman.


Celebrating 36 years in the travel industry in 2019, The Goldman Group has contributed to excelling the careers of many women in the travel industry. From those new to the industry straight from studies, or those transitioning to a travel career later in life, the Goldman Group is instrumental in building a foundation for its travel advisors.

 

A handful of Goldwomen have shared their highlights and humble beginnings in the travel industry below.

 

Louise Crane of Travelcall Melbourne commenced on her second career path as a travel advisor in her 40s, after working for a family manufacturing business for many years.

 

“I wanted to use my skill set towards something that I would enjoy selling, researching, talking and thinking about. Possessing passion, knowledge, experience and technological skills allows you to embark on an amazing career in the travel industry. I love waking up in the morning and checking my emails to find replies from my international colleagues in St Petersburg, Shanghai and Cuzco assisting me with itinerary requests for my clients,” says Ms Crane.

 

“I began working in travel in my early 20s, I had just returned from a big overseas trip when I had the realisation that a career in travel would allow me to work on what I was most passionate about. It’s been a truly rewarding career, and I’ve been lucky enough to meet inspiring role models along the way - as well as have some incredible travel experiences that make me thankful to be part of such an exciting industry,” says Kristie McShane of Quintessentially Travel Australia.

 

Following a conversation with Michael Holtz (CEO of SmartFlyer USA) and many years of deliberating, Gloria Gammo, found herself starting a travel business from scratch.


“I did so much personal travel, that my family and friends would ask me to book their travel for them - so I did! This turned into booking travel for friends of friends, and five years on, I have cultivated a solid client list who entrust me with their travel plans. Honeymoons are one of my favourite client trips to plan – they’re always fun and tend to comprise of a multi-destination itinerary,” says Ms Gammo.


Not giving away my age but I started in the travel industry as a telephonist and sole domestic consultant. All bookings with clients and airlines were conducted over the phone and I delivered the tickets on foot. Looking back, it was so much fun, and a different environment - I had no experience other than selling, and smoking in the office was totally acceptable with your clients!” says Terrye Pepper-Hill, Goldman Travel Corporation.

 

“I have put together many wonderful trips for loyal clients. I’m sentimental when it comes to arranging travel, and it’s all about the memories for me. I want to create genuine, unforgettable memories and unbeatable travel experiences for my clients. We travel not to escape life but so life does not escape us - if I’m able to create this for my clients, then my job is well done!” says Janine Kovkin, Travel Phase.
